This scene was inspired by a surreal evening on December 10, 2003 when the sky in Five Points turned orange for unknown reasons. Five Points is the circa 1920 shopping village a few blocks from the University of South Carolina where Hootie and the Blowfish got their start. Blue's wife owned a gallery there for over 20 years that featured his work.
Blue Sky was born Warren Edward Johnson in Columbia, South Carolina (1938). Sky has painted professionally for over 55 years, and is solely supported by his art since 1970. His works are in the Smithsonian and many other museums. He is best known for his trompe l'oeil mural and masterpiece, TUNNELVISION (1975).
