Artist's Description
Many students at the University of South Carolina chose to get married in the historic Rutledge Chapel on the Horseshoe. Constructed in 1805, it is the oldest building at the University of South Carolina. It is named for John and Edward Rutledge, both governors of South Carolina and were both involved in the creation of the university. Edward was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. It was originally a dormitory, chapel, library, classroom and laboratory. Currently in 2018 it houses 47 students and host chapel and wedding ceremonies.
